In this article I am going to discuss how to use these portals which are available at free of cost effectively in your hunt for a good job.
Step#1: Requirements:
For creating a job portal profile all you need is an email id and a mobile phone number (though the phone numbers are not essential one, adding this will you a give lot of advantage.)
Step#2: Selection of job Portals:
You can yourself find the best one based on their web traffic rank can be found out for any web sites like Alexia. Companies are selecting job portals based on the total number of candidate profiles they are having and the cost of their service (for companies resume Database access in job portals is not free). Based on these criteria, the companies may choose any of the leading job portals. So you must choose at least two or three leading job portals of your country.
After identifying the job portals, you need to do two things. One is creating your profile by registering an account. The second one is searching and applying jobs. The second one is a continuous work you need to do till you get your favorite job.
Step#3: profile creation - Dos and Don'ts:
a. Never miss to attach your resume in word format in your job portal accounts.
Reason: Once the recruiter screening the portal short lists your profile, he will download your attached resume and send it to the concern person who created this opening for technical review. So it is very important to attach word format resume.
b. Content of your online job profile and your attached resume must be same.
Reason: Since the screening is done based on the matching of your online job profile with the job description, missing out some important content or having different content in your attached profile may affect you're your chances of getting through the sort listing for further processing which is generally done by the person who creates the job.
c. Don't give falls mobile numbers.
This may cause inconvenience to somebody with unnecessary job calls. If you are getting too much calls and if you don't want them, remove your number permanently and if it is not possible to remove, put something like 0000000 or 9999999.
a. Never leave your current salary as a blank or zero in your profile.
Reason: You will miss a chance if the recruiter uses a salary range in his search. For example, if your CTC is 6 lacks and you put zero or left it blank in your profile, your profile will be missed in the search result of a recruiter who uses a salary range of 5 to 7 lacks in his search even though your profile matches his requirements exactly.
b. Always avoid irrelevant key skills to your core area of expertise or of different functionality in both your online and attached job profile.
Reason: it is not doing any good to your job hunt and sometimes it may affect your chances of getting short listed. e.g. if you are an accounts manager, putting your knowledge of C++ and HTML is not required even if you know them very well.
Step#4: Searching and applying jobs:
If demand is more for your profile, you will start getting a lot of calls from recruiters at least for two to three months from when you registered or you become active i.e. you have logged in to your account. In this case you may not have to search and apply for the jobs. In general, once in a week, search and apply for the suitable jobs on the portals you have registered.
Dos and Don'ts in Searching and applying jobs:
a. Use appropriate keywords in your job search.
b. Do not apply only seeing the job title or the search preview. Open the job posting in a separate tap and read it fully. Apply only if all the requirements are matching.
E.g. if the years of experience required is 10 to 12 years, and if you are applying for it with only 4 years of experience. It is just a waste of time for both yourself and the Recruiting Company.
I hope the above information will help you to increase the potential of your online job search and I wish you all the best.
